| Dear Applicant, Thank-you for your interest in the Coloma-Hagar Fire Department. We welcome your desire and enthusiasm in serving your community. The life of a paid-on-call firefighter can be a very rewarding one. However, this life also requires a large time commitment on everyone’s part. The Coloma-Hagar Fire Department covers over 42 square miles of 911 coverage area in four different municipalities. Our 30 member department averages 200-225 incident responses per year. We conduct departmental training sessions every Monday night from 1900hrs to 2100hrs, and a business meeting the 1st Monday of every month. Other training is offered throughout the year and is strongly encouraged; however the attendance policy outlines our requirements during your employment with the Coloma-Hagar Fire Department. As a new recruit you will be required to complete the state’s Firefighter II program within two years of joining the department, (we would prefer within the first year if it is possible.) The training requires 201 hours of your time. This training is required by the state and may require a Saturday and/or Sunday attendance. New members are required to pass a physical performance exam, standard pre-employment drug screening, physical exam, and interview boards before full acceptance is granted to the department. Candidates must also meet specific vaccination record requirements prior to responding to any incidents. Fire Department members are not allowed to wear beards or any other facial hair that may conflict with the sealing area of the self-contained breathing apparatus, as well as outlined by OSHA requirements. Upon full acceptance onto the Coloma-Hagar Fire Department, you will receive SOP’s that will outline all the information in regards to policies and procedures in which you will be accountable for. As you can see, being a firefighter requires a lot of time and commitment; however the satisfaction from being there for your community, the family of the department, and the difference you will personally make in someone’s life is well worth the effort. Again we thank-you for your time and interest in joining our organization. Please complete the application at the station and return it to the administrating officer. We look forward to working with you in the future. Applications may be acquired on any Monday night, other than a national holiday, from 7pm to 9pm at the Coloma Station on Washington Street, downtown Coloma. Applications must be filled out at the station and you may call 269-468-4412. Respectfully, Coloma-Hagar Fire Department |
